In response to the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Dance
King Cobra Village of Ban Khok Sa-Nga in Tambon Sai Mun, Khon Kaen, Thailand
The strange custom of snake dancing and fighting began when a herb farmer began putting on shows to attract customers to the village, the art of breeding and training snakes has been nurtured ever since.
Rumour has it that some visitors have been killed during the shows. The snakes are supposedly not ‘milked’ (regular emptying of the poison glands), nor have the fangs been removed.
The king cobras venom paralyses its victims nervous system, normally killing a man within 15 minutes, with no doctor or pharmacy nearby, herbal medicines produced by mixing crushed leaves and lemon juice are the only treatment for those unlucky enough to get bitten.

Scary to hear that people (might) have been killed during the snake shows. You can never know when a snake may strike. Brilliant high five shot. Well timed, and love the intensity in the man’s face.

That’s a dangerous dance! I’ve heard of people loosing more than a finger… You must be either extremely brave, or equipped with a telephoto lens. Great shots Adrian!
